After you have completed your initial consultation with me, and I have determined your dogs needs, we can arrange for a Follow-up Training Session, Walk and Training Sessions, or a referral to another specialist trainer or Vet or Vet Behaviourist. ![Don't you just wish your dog would "x" instead of "z"?
We spend an awful amount of time wishing our dogs didn't dig, bark, chew, lunge, growl, [insert annoying dog behaviour here].
These are all essentially normal dog behaviours, yet we demonise them. We find them annoying. We wish they would stop.
Let's take the time to recognise that "stop" and "no" aren't behaviours, nor are they commands, nor are they a realistic training goal.
What if we spent more time accepting the truth of who our dog is, rather than trying to change them. Rather than trying to stop them from doing dog things. What if we spent that energy on being curious as to why they choose the behaviours they choose to do?
Our dogs are who they are because of so many factors, usually it has NOTHING to do with how you trained them or "raised" them.
The truth is, your dog is who they are because they are who they are.
They are their experiences, not your intentions.
They are their emotions, not your dreams or aspirations.
They are what they want and what they need, they are not your wants and they are not your needs.
They are experiencing the world from their perspective, and not yours.
They are only dogs. Smart. Intelligent. Learners. Flawed. Doing the best job they can with the knowledge and skills they have, with the support and understanding we provide to them.
And we are only human. Our own kind of smart, intelligent, flawed learners, who need to step up and do a better job at being kinder to our dogs, accepting that our truth may not be our dog's truth.
